Did you know that foxes can damage the ABS cables of cars and cause faults?
I'm a former police officer from Glasgow. One posting involved taking/screening vandalism reports from a large area of Glasgow. One year a small area had numerous reports of ABS cables being cut. This resulted in brake warning lights going on although the brakes still worked. Initially accepted as vandalism, it was later established by sending samples to an expert at a university that the damage was caused by foxes chewing the cables. For some reason, only certain makes were affected, notably Honda CR-Vs. Perhaps the higher ground clearance made for easier access? Maybe they had a different formula on their cable insulation?
These incidents occurred in late summer. There was speculation that it was older cubs, perhaps teething? After the first year we noticed this pattern we watched the vandalism reports and picked up a few more over following years. Always in the same area. The incidents were very localised - one driver had his car damaged three or four times and other cars in the same car park were damaged. In most areas it never happened at all.

Many thanks. I wonder if they were pine martins, not foxes. Apparently parts of Scotland suffer the same problem with 'marder' (pine martins) as parts of Germany. Some preventions include laying 1cm square chicken wire under the car. Rodents don't like that for some reason. Otherwise there are sprays: from www.terrasan.de or www.westfalia.net
