How can I prevent condensation freezing on the inside of my Honda Jazz and Peugeot 207's windscreens?
Are there any tricks to prevent a windscreen icing up on the inside during winter? If it's unavoidable, what is the best way of dealing with it as quickly as possible before driving off? I assume leaving the engine on for five minutes or so is not the recommended method. I have seen adverts for a small plug-in fan heater, and also for a bag of crystals that absorb moisture, are they any good? I have two cars, both parked outside. One is a Jazz (petrol, without aircon) and also a Peugeot 207 (diesel with air con). Will the method of dealing with the problem be different?

The main thing to do is avoid any moisture ingress to the car, because that is what is freezing on the inside of the screen. When I lived through very cold winters in the past I used to open the driver's window so the moisture on my breath did not hit the ice cold screen and freeze. Yes, an auxiliary fan heater will help but will drain an awful lot of current that the engine might not be able to put back and which might leave you with a flat battery. A/c should dry any moisture in the air circulating inside the car so should be run on recirculate. Also make sure the pollen filter is not clogged with dirt or moisture.
