Golf losing power

My 6 year old Golf started to lose power going uphill on a long drive today, that is to say I was pressing the pedal but no acceleration was forthcoming.

Thereafter, it became a problem on the flat as well, and in every gear there seemed to be only a limited amount of power available.

The only time I got the car to do over 70 was when I drove downhill. Could it be my driving, or problems with fuel or maybe with the ECU?

Would suggest that you check that you have not got a worn clutch ( ie clutch slip) first.

If not this then it maybe that the car is going into limp mode (that is that one of the sensors is at fault).

You will need to have a diagnostic check carried out to identify what the problem is.
