I need a used diesel 4X4
I am looking for a used diesel 4x4 which will see heavy off-road use as a farm and woodland utility vehicle, and little motorway/long-distance use. The various reviews do not answer two specific questions clearly:
1. Is it correct that the type of tyres fitted is ultimately more important than which make/model 4x4 is used? (i.e a modest ability 4x4 with off-road tires will perform better than the best 4x4 with road tires).
2. The reviews of 4x4 pick-ups never appear to compare the 4x4 ability with 'proper' 4x4s - for example is a Mitsubishi L200 any less capable off-road than a Mitsubishi Shogun, or how does the Toyota Hilux compare to a Toyota Landcruiser?

1. To an extent, but if you want the best of both go for a Range Rover Sport on 19" Pirelli Scorpions.
2. Due to live rear axles and rear leaf springs the ride quality of pick-ups is abysmal compared to independently sprung SUVs.
