Which car for towing a caravan?

I am looking for a suitable large, yet economical used estate car to tow a 1500kg caravan - up to 3 years old for £15,000. A Volvo V70 2.4 diesel seems to fit the bill, except there seems to be a question mark over its reliability. Should I stay clear of the Volvo?

Probably better to go for a newer Mondeo 2.0TDCI estate.
