Is a small diesel suitable?
I really favour the Audi A1 1.6TDI diesel, but am concerned that with 5000 to 6000 miles per year it might be a problem.
I do some motorway driving (about once a month) but the M6 is usually too busy to drive for 20 minutes at a constantly high speed. Is there a way around?

The 1.2 or 1.4TSI make much more sense.
