Cheap, reliable 4X4

I'm looking to buy a large, 'proper' 4x4 (it will be off-roaded) which is very reliable for up to £6k. What vehicle would you recommend?

My primary concern is reliability, but it must also be large and capable of off-road action.

Also, with regards to your recommended vehicle, can you please also confirm what it's common problems are / what to look for when buying?
