Should I buy a petrol or diesel SUV?
I'm looking for a 2019 VW Touareg 3.0 - should I buy the TDI or TSI, I would be towing a caravan but it would be 99.5% solo driving. I'm thinking of future government rises in fuel duty and road fund duty because they want petrol and diesels off the road. My wife and I are both in our late 60's and do not want electric cars.

It is likely that both petrol and diesel cars are likely to be taxed more heavily in the future, but the reality is that the vast majority of cars currently on the road still use fossil fuels and millions of motorists will not be able to afford an electric vehicle, so they will continue to use ICE vehicles for years to come. Diesel vehicles will likely attract higher tax in the future than petrol, but it is worth balancing this against the fuel economy of a petrol Touareg against a diesel model. The more miles you do each year the more sense the diesel will make over the petrol, so it is worth doing some basic calculations to work out what is best for your needs.

I can't decide between the Toyota RAV4 petrol hybrid or the Mazda CX-5 diesel. Both appear to be great cars. Can you please give your opinion on which one should I go for?
I have a 15-plate Honda CR-V 1.6 diesel. I still want a diesel and like the elevated driving position but need something that will deliver mid 50's+ real mpg. The budget is £20k. What would you recommend?
