Electrical issue with Vectra

I have a W-plate Vectra Estate and recently the rev meter is spiking intermittantly to 7000 revs even though the engine is ticking over fine. Also the l.c.d. panel to the stereo has gone blank and the traction control light is constantly on even though there is nothing wrong? Any ideas?

It may be that you have a earthing problem. We would suggest that you check out all earthing points first.
1.LH inner wing in front of the suspension housing in the engine bay
2.The rear of then engine block near the starter /alternator
3.The upper LH side of the kick panel
4.Inside the centre of the dash-its on the crossmember behind the dash
5.Underneath the centre console housing(under the handbrake area)
6.The centre of the rear panel behind the raer haedrests.
7.On the front panel ,below the LH headlamp
8.There are some others at the back of the engine (all depends on differing engines)
If all earths are ok then it might be the Multitimer (a known fault )you may be able to acquire one from a scap yard to test yours out.
