Are speed camera detectors any good?

Are speed camera detectors any good? And are they worth buying?

As a general rule we don't recommend safety speed camera detectors. While it's easy to stray over the limit - especially in unfamiliar areas - the best way to prevent being caught out is to be aware of speed limits and stick to them. However, there are some dash cams that will alert you of speed camera, like the Mio C330 (review here: kit.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/review-mio-mivue-c330.../). There are also smartphone apps, like Waze - which is free and will alert you of safety cameras, police cars, hazards etc in real-time based on other drivers' input.
