Budget first cars

I am a 31-year-old female and Im about to buy my first car after passing my driving test. I would like some advice.

My budget is about £2000, and I would like a car with low tax and insurance. I need the car mostly for getting around town in Oxford, driving on the motorway only at weekends.

I have heard good things about the Toyota Yaris and Nissan Micra (more the Yaris), but I don't really know so much about cars (only that I want to go for one with 1.2 or 1.3 engine).
