Cool off...
Engine management light came on recently and I've been quoted £475 for a new cooling fan motor by the main dealer.
Is this excessive, bearing in mind they can do it tomorrow and I have a long journey this weekend?
Also, what other problems related to this could I expect? I have noticed oil consumption for the first time recently, could this be related? I've now covered 146,000 miles in the 6+ years of ownership, is it just a sign of old age?

Is it the fan motor or is it the thermo switch? But yes, after 146k miles you can at least expect valve stem oil seals to start failing and oil consumption to increase.
