Does slowing an automatic using the paddles instead of the brakes damage the gearbox?

Does it damage an auto gear box to use the paddle changers to slow down, rather than the brakes?

Using engine braking to slow a vehicle rather than the brakes themselves is a false economy. Although engines and gearboxes are designed to be robust and last thousands of miles, they are more expensive to replace than discs and pads, and slowing the vehicle using this method will create unnecessary strain on the powertrain.
