Limping 306
I've got a 2001 Peugeor 306 2.0 HDi with an intermittnt limp mode problem.
The problem seemed to start after running out of diesel after six months of no problems. After a visit to the dealer it went away with them having done nothing as they say the wiring loom was tampered with. There are 4 copper wires spliced into the loom and joined into an earthing point.
The car only seemed to have problems when using cheap diesel but now the problem seems to be back. I took the car down to Exmor from Peterborough and after five hours of no problems it suddenly couldn't go over 2200 revs. It cleared and the car was fine for two days but on the way home after 30mins the fault was back for the whole five hours home. It occasionally cleared for short periods of 2-3 minutes, other times it would stay for ages.
When going through the gears some were okay others not. at tickover the engine occasionally revs at 1200 then slowly drops.

This could be a number of things. As it sounds as though you have one of the sensors at fault I would suggest that you check the cam/crank sensor (change it if unsure, not expensive)Then check the MAF sensor (mass air flow) then the Lambda sensor (exhaust).
Over that carry out checks on your air filter and also your fuel filter, if in doubt renew them.
