Rattling from cold
I've got a 2006 Vectra 2.2 SRi direct with 29,000 miles.
I just bought it two weeks ago and noticed there was 'mayo' on the oil filler cap, and upon investigating further, in the breather pipe to the cam cover.
I cleaned these out and there is now no problem.(Apparantly the guy who had the car before me from new did not go very far in it.)
This morning I started the car and it sounded like a diesel, with rattling from the top of engine. It continued to rattled when I drove off.
It took a good five minutes to go silent. Could the tappets have the 'mayo' in as well, thus blocking the oil when cold?
The car has a full service history.

I have an Alfa 156 which was running sweet except a bit tappy on cold start up. The noise lasts about 10 secs then is fine. I have replaced the cambelt as the car had 55,000 on the clock and nobody could...

Far better than previous Vectra. Now with decent handling and an excellent ride. Plenty of safety kit. Roomy in the front. Big boot. Good looks.
