What medium SUV should we buy?
It's getting towards the time to replace our (very reliable) ageing 60 plate Honda Civic 1.8 automatic. We have a maximum budget of £18,000 and are looking for a reliable SUV automatic 5 door vehicle roughly 4 years old. We have ruled out the Ford Puma, Peugeot 2008 and similar sized cars as being too small as I will need to fit some fishing tackle in the boot area occasionally (even with the rear seats folded). We test drove a Peugeot 3008 1.2 Pure Tech automatic and enjoyed the amount of space in the front and rear seats together with a good size boot, the amount of tech and finish of the interior but wondered about the reliability of the 3008 overall and, in particular, the automatic gearbox?
We'd really appreciate your thoughts about the 3008 1.2 automatic and if you have any suggestions of possible reliable alternative cars?

We rate the Peugeot 3008 highly - it's an excellent family SUV that would meet your needs well. Unfortunately there are a few common issues with the 1.2 Puretech petrol engine, although all can be avoided with regular maintenance. It needs regular oil changes (with the correct grade oil) so look for one with a good service record. The automatic gearbox is generally much more reliable than dual-clutch transmissions used in alternative cars. We'd also recommend looking at the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.
