What are my rights as a private seller?

I sold a 17 year old car, not aware of any issues on car and did not describe as perfect. Money and details were exchanged. As the buyer left he literally pulled off gear stick as reversing the car. Now he is claiming that the gear box was on its way out and he was sold a faulty car. Where do I stand?

If you have described the car accurately, funds have been exchanged and the buyer has accepted the vehicle condition at the time of sale then there is not a great deal they can do. Also it is worth noting that the gearlever coming away in their hand does not mean that the gearbox is faulty and could be repaired quickly and cheaply.
