Is a front numberplate UK sticker a legal requirement in the EU?

We are taking our Hyundai Tuscon to France for a holiday soon. It does not have the UK identifier on the number plates and although there is room for a UK sticker on the rear plate, the position of the registration and mounting nuts on the front plate prevent the use of a sticker.

If I buy a larger UK stick-on identifier for the rear window or hatch, then I am only displaying it to the rear. Could I just use a sticker for the rear number plate and forget about one for the front? I've spent a lot of time trying to find an answer but no one seems to address this.

You can find the official guidance for driving in the EU on the government website here: www.gov.uk/guidance/driving-in-the-eu but in reference to registration plates, if your numberplates do not have the UK identifier with the Union flag, or they have the GB identifier, a Euro symbol, national flag of England, Scotland or Wales, or no flag or identifier, then you need to display a UK sticker on the rear of your vehicle only.
