Faulty Roof Rack
I bought an 18 month old Peugeot 207 in August 2009 from a main Peugeot dealer. With it I bought a set of roof bars, which were fitted to the car when I bought it.
I had removed and replaced them several times, but when I went to take them off last November(2010) the front one wouldn't release on one side.
Since then I have been back to the dealer four times, on two occasions they have claimed to have fixed it but when I went to remove the bars they still wouldn't release, in fact the back bar now won't release either - plastic pegs which should operate the release mechanism seem to have sheared off.
The mechanism appears to be virtually all plastic, so it's not a case of corrosion, and of course the bars are out of their 12 month warranty.
I am pressing for the dealer to remove and replace them as not being of satisfactory quality, but they are dragging their heels and generally fobbing me off, and all the while I am using extra fuel because I have roof bars stuck to the roof.
I would expect roof bars to last more than the 14 months that they did without developing a fault - I would be grateful for your opinion on what to do next.

Tell the dealer that if he does not remove and replace them you will have another dealer do this and will then sue the dealer who supplied you with the car for the bill via www.moneyclaim.gov.uk
