How old can tyres be before they need replacing?

When should I change tyres on my car? Is there a maximum age they can be?

If your tyres have not worn out, we would suggest looking for signs of ageing once they are three or four years old. This is likely to be shown by cracking along the sidewalls.

Tyres that have stored from new can last much longer than this, but manufacturers such as Michelin recommend not using tyres that are ten or more years old.
