Should I use my air con in the winter?

I have just bought my first car with air con. I have been advised that i need to run it all the time to stop the seals drying out. This may be okay in summer but I prefer to have the heater on in winter. What is the correct way to use the air con in winter?

It's not necessarily the case that you have to run your aircon all the time, but it is sensible to use it regularly to prevent issues. You can still use the air conditioning in the winter, simply switch it on and set the temperature to your preference.

I had followed your advice to always keep the air con switched on, and to good effect in that with my vehicle owned from new for 20 years it has always worked fine without ever even needing re-gassing....
