Does the Honda CR-V 2.0-litre VTEC have an issue with oil leaks?

I’ve seen a 2018 Honda CR-V for sale for £21,995 and after making a few inquiries l read that some models had engine oil leaks. Is this something you are aware of?

Also do you think this is a good buy? The mileage is only 3600 with one previous owner.

We have seen some reports concerning oil leaks on the Honda CR-V, but these have been on the 1.5-litre VTEC engine rather than the 2.0-litre version you are looking at. Even so, if you are concerned about a particular problem on a used car there's no harm in paying it some extra attention. Look closely at the service history, particularly invoices which may show that work has been carried out in this area, and check the under-bonnet area from above and below. Or for added reassurance you can book a full inspection of the vehicle which would indicate any evidence of oil leaks.

We think the Honda CR-V is a sound choice, with a refined driving experience and a great cabin. If this example has only 3600 miles that is exceptionally low for a five-year-old car, so we would recommend taking a careful look at the service and MoT history to ensure the mileage is accurate.
