Best £16,000 hatchback for comfort and fuel economy?

I am looking for a petrol automatic five-door hatchback that is not a crossover, too large or firm riding. The car must be comfortable, well-equipped, reasonably economical, reliable and ULEZ-compliant.

Are you able to recommend suggestions with a maximum budget 0f £16,000?

My recommendation would be the latest Toyota Corolla. It's generously equipped as standard with most versions getting touchscreen navigation, heated front seats and LED headlights. The Corolla also has an excellent reputation for reliability, while the 1.8 Hybrid model will return 60+mpg.

Very efficient hybrid hatch with surprisingly upmarket interior. Good to drive, too, while standard equipment levels are generous.
