How can I remove water from my diesel car's fuel tank?

There seem to be a bunch of claims out there about the best ways to get the water out of my diesel fuel tank. Can you recommend any?

It will depend on how much water has got into the tank. A small amount can be neutralized by adding a fuel additive but if you are unsure of the quantity then the best method would be to drain the tank, remove the fuel filter and clean. Be aware that running the engine with water in the diesel can result in severe engine damage.
