New Skoda Roomster - which engine?

We want to buy a (probably new) Roomster as long as we can cope with the four-month wait.

I don't know which engine to go for.

Does this Skoda have the same VAG 1.4 diesel that appears to be disappointing in the Audi A1 or is it an older one? I can't find a petrol version to test drive and I am wary that a 1.2 engine is going to struggle to pull the car along especially when loaded. I have no strong preference for diesel or petrol but we do not do high enough mileage to justify diesel all other things being equal. What do you think?

That engine is on the way out, replaced by a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder diesel and a fairly new 1.6 four-cylinder diesel. Better to go for the 1.2TSI 105 petrol anyway. No point in a diesel with a DPF if you will be using the car for short runs.
