Waiting five months for medical driving licence renewal - is this normal?

I applied to renew my over 70s driving licence (with medical conditions) in March 2022 and I'm still waiting. Is this length of time to process normal?

There have been long delays with paper medical driving licence applications due to staff shortages caused by the pandemic and strike action last year (see: www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/driving-1/2022-05/dvla-d.../). However, the DVLA is expecting to return to normal processing times next month - 90 per cent of medical applications processed in 90 days.

In my opinion you should have heard by now. I would suggest writing to the DVLA medical department (Drivers Medical Group DVLA Swansea SA99 1TU) or if you have already tried contacting them escalating this to a formal complaint.
