Hybrid versus plug-in hybrid - what's the difference?
What is the difference between hybrid and plug-in hybrid?

The big difference is simply (as the name suggests) that a plug-in hybrid will not give you any benefit without plugging it in to charge it up. A plug-in hybrid might give you an electric range of 30 miles or more, but you need to be able to charge it up at home ideally. A regular hybrid has a much smaller battery but charges itself as it drives, constantly switching between petrol and electric power to make it more efficient.
