Can I fit different front and rear tyres?

I have Michelin Cross Climate tyres fitted to all four wheels of my Toyota Yaris Verso. I replaced the front two tyres a few months ago and now need to replace the rear tyres but cannot find Michelin Cross Climates of the correct size anywhere. Even Michelin do not know when that size will be available. One supplier has suggested fitting Goodyear Vector 4-Season tyres to the rear wheels as a) they are all-season tyres, and b) have a 'chevron' tread pattern similar to the Michelins. Would this be safe?

While not absolutely optimal, mixing two sets of tyres on each axle is perfectly safe as long as they are the correct type (as you say, all-seasons) and have a similar or near-identical tread pattern. We'd side with the supplier on this one.
