Is there an alternative to the 12v power socket?

Has anyone produced a better power take off socket than the 'cigarette lighter' socket?

I find that running my cold box from my Hyundai Tucson's rear socket results in the plug getting very hot, presumably as the power has to pass through a very small 'point' contact at the apex of the plug.

Fine for cigarette lighting but not ideal for prolonged power draw.

Any suggestions please?

Unfortunately we're not aware of it being possible to directly replace your 12v 'cigarette lighter' socket with another connection without having an automotive electrician wire in something like a USB socket. Many cars still have these 12V sockets, but USBs are becoming the more common accessory connected. Many new cars do now come with a 240V accessory socket option with a typical three-pin plug, however.
