Sat fright

My Peugeot 406 HD90, now 5 years old is fitted with factory satnav. I have not used it a great deal locally but now, about to go away, I find it unreadable. The main dealer states that it has to be returned to repair at approx cost £250 not viable. Can you offer any reason for the malfunctioning? If a portable sat nav such as TomTom is suitable could you suggest a good buy for not a lot of heavy usage.

It may be repairable by an independent specialist, maybe not. Tom Tom and Garmin are both good. I particularly like the Tom Tom facility that shows you your true speed against the prevailing limit and beeps if you over speed by more than10%. That's a real licence saver. Halfords is probably your best source. www.indic8tor.com is a cheaper alternative. www.enablecom.co.uk offers this feature as an ‘App’ for Smartphones.

Has anybody got the instruction for using the sat nav?
