Bulk diss count

This week my 1997 SAAB 900 Convertible failed its MOT test due to a crack in the bulkhead. It was fine at the service in August. It has done 98,000 miles and been serviced by SAAB dealers each year of its life (stamps in the book). SAAB UK has refused to pay a penny towards the repair as the car is too old. It's old by luck not design.
SAAB has known about this problem since 2001. I actually spoke to the VOSA test driver who did the original tests. He reckoned they should cover the costs because it's a design flaw not normal wear and tear. I don't want to scream and shout (actually that is exactly what I want to do), but am currently £1,000 out of pocket for a repair that SAAB should have covered long before I even bought the car.

VOSA refused to issue a recall over this on Cavaliers and Cavalier derivatives such as the Daewoo Espero and SAAB 900. I had correspondence with the then head of VOSA, a Mr Sweeting, at least 6 years ago. It's a very well known problem, in car-by-car breakdown at hjuk, but at 12 years old your car is past the end of its design life anyway.
