Three across
We have a young son (15 months) and are expecting twins (slightly more than we bargained for), so will need a car capable of taking 3 baby seats - ideally Isofix - and associated peripherals. I am not a fan of kiddie friendly MPVs and although they might be the 'obvious' choice would like to explore what other cars might suit the requirement. Budget is, fortunately, not a huge constraint. We live in semi rural village so something 4x4 would not be ridiculous. I was wondering on the capabilities of an E class estate, Audi A6 or an X5 / similar - hopefully there is something interesting that would fit the bill (for context we currently have a BMW 330d touring, a V50 Volvo estate - the baby bus - and a Boxster). Alternatively, which of the MPVs do you recommend?

By far the most sensible cheap car is a Citroen Xsara Picasso, which has three separate and accessible rear seats and lots of luggage space in the back. Loads of them around. A Peugeot 307/308SW does the same job in a more carlike vehicle. A Ford S-Max does it in a 7-seater sportscar (with the 220PS 2.5 turbo, or the 2.2 diesel). The first car which I’ve noticed has three ISOFIX across is the 2010 model Hyundai Santa Fe.
