Wound up
I've recently suffered a break-down with my car, which I can only attribute to speed-bumps. So far it's proven to be a costly exercise, having been left stranded with broken springs with the front suspension of my car. The repair bill has rattled up quickly: £114 AA Membership required, to get the car recovered (could not be moved/towed). £80 AA surcharge, for not being a member when I called (the cover had lapsed) £130. A pair of new springs from Ford £110. Labour for fitting £120. A pair of new front tyres (one severely damaged by the spring). There's no way of putting a price on the inconvenience, but my objections thus far have been that I don't drive across speed-bumps at 'speed' (barely enough to get me over, as I don't want this sort of damage.). The downside seems to be, that there's no way of me avoiding (finding a suitable route) that has no speed-bumps or preventing my car from getting damaged again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, no one has successfully sued any councils for spring damage by speed humps or speed cushions. The problem is, the humps are only part of the cause. The springs themselves are badly made and badly seated and this admits corrosion to the ends, which are the area of the greatest stress (because the springs are not properly finished off). I think I can make a case against speed cushions for ripping the inner shoulders of tyres to bits, but not yet against speed humps and cushions for finishing off already corroded springs.
