Executor decision
A friend and client is executor of a deceased relative’s estate and obliged to realise assets for fair value. Amongst them is a Mercedes E280 Auto Estate in silver reg April 1995. One owner from new, immaculate condition, mileage 35,500 with full MB service history to April 2008. Since 2008 (last MOT) it’s done very little mileage and is now tax and MoT expired. How attractive/sought after is this particular car given its current status? What’s it realistically worth? What’s the best way of selling it to maximise proceeds. We’re not keen on a Classic auction due to the hassle of getting it there (no tax/MoT). What potential problems will a buyer face given low recent activity – it’s only done 300-400 miles since its April 2008 MoT.

The specialist is Nicholas Froome at www.w124.co.uk As a private sale it’s worth about £2,000. As a retail sale, renovated and recommissioned, perhaps £4,000 - £5,000. Sell it to Nicolas Froome. Lack of activity could have led to rusted brake discs, flat battery, electrical problems, flatspotted tyres. (C.G. got in touch with Nicholas Froome who showed up with a trailer.)
