Hip, step and jump

My husband has no left hip joint and therefore cannot use a clutch. We need a new automatic car, preferably a hatchback, which is easy to get into and upright, like a van to sit in. At present we have a Skoda Octavia Diesel Estate DSG 2005, which is a brilliant car in every way (and very economical on fuel) except for sitting-in comfort over long journeys. We used this to tow our caravan, which we have sold, so no longer need such a big car. Economy, reliability, safety and boot space for a wheel chair or walking aid are important too. We cannot trek from showroom to showroom looking, so we would be very grateful for some suggestions, please. My husband seems keen on a FIAT Panda automatic, for some reason.
