Tearier in Iberia

I have a holiday home in Spain but am not resident there. I spend less than six months a year in Spain. My residence is in UK. If I buy a Spanish registered car (in Spain!) and bring it to UK how long can I use it in UK? Friends have told me that it must be UK registered immediately as it would be illegal for me, a UK resident, to drive a Spanish (or other EU) registered car) in UK. What is the answer?

This misinterpretation of the rules has now been resolved and officialdom has confirmed that UK residents can bring their holiday home cars into the UK without being accused of illegally importing them. But, since January 2009, you register a car in Spain unless you declare yourself a Spanish resident with your entire worldwide income taxed in Spain, not the UK.
