Sixties car

Can you help us? My husband is 61 and I will reach 60 next year. We would like to change our car for something newer and also to get better miles per gallon. We have had our 1993 Audi 80 2 litre automatic estate for about 8 years. We have been very happy with it but feel it is time for a change. We do not need an estate but it has to be automatic as my husband has some health problems and finds an automatic easier to drive. We also have two little dogs and a small trailer to pull. We do mostly short journeys and normally just go away once or twice a year when we use the trailer. We did about 5,000 miles last year. We would like to spend between £3,000 to £4,000.
