Chips with every bling?

I was interested to read your recommendation of the Isuzu Rodeo pick-up in last Saturday's Motoring, as I have been considering buying one. It seems that the 'Max LE' version, with the Prodrive upgrade, is the most desirable model. As I shall use it to tow a large trailer, would I be right to choose the 3.0 litre engine option? A friend of a friend, however, has worried me. He says some of the diesel models are experiencing major fuel injection problems! 'John has a customer with one and has passed it over to the dealers in Haslemere, who are at a loss. They just keep replacing the injectors but they go again after a few months. It seems this is not an isolated case. John says his customer is keen to get shot of the car, but he certainly would not want to sell it to you, because of the problems.
Have you heard or experienced anything like this?

Sorry, I'm not up for ludicrously modified pick-ups. The D-Max/Rodeo and Chevrolet Colorado make most sense with the standard 2.5 or 3.0 chain-cam I-TEQ engines. They do 34 - 40mpg in 2wd with no load. We have two in Thailand. No engine problems with either, so far. The earlier engines did have problems. Could be that the friend tried to run the engine on reclaimed chip oil or
home-made biodiesel, damaged the pump and the pumps than spat shards if its surfaces into the injectors.
