Not entyrely

I purchased a low mileage Mercedes C220 CDI coupe from a Mercedes franchise, part of a major chain of UK franchises. A new tyre was needed after a couple of thousand miles, so I took it to a well known tyre garage who informed me that it had runflat tyres fitted, which he told me was wrong. My 2003/53 car was too old to have these tyres fitted to it. He had to explain to me what runflat tyres meant. He also said the handling must be very harsh, which it was, but I associated this with sports suspension. He also informed me that the car would need a light on the dashboard when a problem with the tyre pressure occurred. I phoned the dealer who told me that as far as they were concerned these tyres would be fine. I’ve been in contact with Mercedes customer service who also tell me that their technical department does not advise fitting these tyres to my car. I took the car to have all four tyres replaced and to my amazement was told that the car had 3 runflat tyres and 1 ordinary tyre. I’ve asked the garage to keep these for me and have been trying to get re-imbursed for the replacement tyres. Could I possibly have your views on this? Was it dangerous or damaging to the car to have been fitted with these tyres?

Dangerous and illegal, because had a runflat deflated you would not have known and the tyre could eventually have overheated and blown out. You have an extremely strong case to either get your money back for the car or force the supplying dealer to replace the tyres. But you have to give the supplying dealer this choice. He is not responsible for paying for anything you do off your own bat.
