BMW electric window problems

I own a BMW Coupe 318ci E46 (2005 model). When opening the driver's door the window opens up completely, not just a small amount to open door. What could the fault be?

Probably a fault with the regulator. At 15-years-old, the pulleys will be heavily worn and may need replacing.
