Brake back mountain

I have a new model Audi A4 2.7TDI auto, which I bought new last April. I have had automatics for over 30 years, and when taking your foot of the throttle in Drive, you coast, no braking effect as in a manual. My car has an intermittent issue with this insofar as occasionally when taking my foot off the throttle, there is a braking effect, and sometimes a binding/burning smell from the rear. I took it back some six weeks after purchase, and have just collected it again from my Audi dealer after this problem continuing. They cannot find anything wrong. Any ideas?

That is deliberately built in to the Multitronic transmission to assist on
descents. I noticed it following a car down a hill when I tested the car. It's described close to the end of the test at: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/index.htm?id=295 The burning smell will be the particulate filter regenerating. That's entirely separate.
