Vio letta

I have today received via Europcar details of an alleged traffic violation in Italy from the Italian Police from September 2008 Can the Italian authorities impose points on a UK licence? I have no recollection of the offence (Driving through a red light) and as the vehicle was insured for both my wife and me cannot say who was driving. What is your advice? I have paid Europcar for an administrative charge for forwarding the paperwork.

In theory this is supposed to be possible. Check with the Italian consulate. Unfortunately there are a lot of fake violation fines filtering through from Italy, usually dating back a year or more. The threat is that you can be pursued for payment via UK courts even though you
have no idea whether you committed the alleged offence or not, and cannot defend yourself against it. Yet another bit of EU law that wasn't thought through properly. Or perhaps was, to the benefit of crooks and authorities and the detriment of EC citizens in general.

I have just received a notification of a traffic offence in Florence on 14 August 2007. Is it correct that according to Italian law I have to be notified within 360 days? If not, this has got to be a record!
