I am the owner of a Mercedes Benz SL55 AMG with a very special registration in Designo Silver. It would appear that a blue MB CL500 is using my registration. I have a letter from the Metropolitan Police to confirm that I am the owner of SL55 and the registration. I have also contacted the DVLA, which confirms that there have not been any requests for duplicate documents. For the past 4 years I have been receiving Congestion Charge notices, Penalty Charge notices 10 in total (5 in the last 3 months). I am considered guilty of these alleged offences (contrary to English Law) unless I can prove otherwise which I have done to date but at a cost and inconvenience. I have suggested to Transport for London, various London Boroughs and the Met Police that it should be possible to establish the driver of the MB CL500 as surely the vehicle should display a Road Fund Licence and at some time pay a Congestion Charge .Can you assist me? Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

I'll tell you what to do. Transfer your cherished registration to a retention certificate and get an age-related reg for your car. Then, the only car bearing the cherished reg on the road will be the cloned car, which will show up on the MID database as uninsured, and you should not get any more tickets because the reg of which you are the registered keeper is not on a car. If you do get any, simply write back telling them the reg is not on a car. With a bit of luck the cloner will then be caught in an ANPR trap.
