Dater storage

There are several BMW X5 SE diesels on the dealer network, all pre- registered 58 plate cars with only double-digit mileage. I need a six-seat car to replace my 530D touring, which I have had from new, now at 107,000 excellent miles. The 7-seat X5 low emissions model fits the bill and I would get use from it as we live high up in the Pennines. Is it possible to work out the manufacturing date from the chassis number?

Read the dates on the seatbelt tags. Cross check with the dates on the plastics. They are highly unlikely to have been made more than a month before the car.
