Cannot coupe
I want to purchase a Rover 827 coupe. A Rover dealer thought that only about 1,000 of these cars were sold. So I asked the DVLA how many exist, if any. DVLA confirmed it holds the information but the cost to it would exceed £800. This is the estimated cost of one person spending 3.5 days or 24 hrs costed at £25ph, as set out in the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Regulations 2004, and section 12 of The FOI Act exempts the DVLA from complying. However, the DVLA said it has commercial selling agents to whom it sells anonymous data ie: EXPERIAN, GMAA AUTOMOTIVE, RL POLK UK LTD, URBAN SCIENCE INT. RP Polk UK Ltd was extremely helpful and came back with an answer in less than 4 hrs.

Different data processing set ups, that's all. The DVLA would have had to do a manual search. Experian and the others could automate it. We recently asked DVLA for information of the slowdown in sales of used cars which you would have thought would be easy to supply simply by subtracting 08/58s from all other changes of keepership. They said they couldn't supply it.
