What's the best small auto?

I need a small, economical, automatic, petrol car to get to work and back - which is 14 miles each way along country lanes. Just getting rid of a 1.0-litre Skoda auto, which I really enjoyed driving. Your advice is to avoid DSGs though, right?

DSGs are generally okay with regular transmission oil changes. You could also look at a Ford Fiesta - the latest model uses a robust six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission. Also consider a Hyundai i20.
