Having been persuaded to fit a Honda reversing sensor kit to my 2005 Accord by local Honda I Guernsey, rather than buying from and having fitted by the dealer from where the car was bought, just over 2 years ago, the sensors have stopped working. Honda tells me that the sensor control box needs a new part. I paid almost £400 for it to be fitted initially and am being quoted almost £300 for the new part to be fitted. Surely these items are designed to last longer? Or is this going to cost me £300 every 2 years? My view is that the product is either not durable or there is a design fault, or both. What is your view please and how do I stand under the UK Sale of Goods Act for a part brought in from the UK?

I don't think you have to put up with this. A sensor failing is one thing, because they are easily damaged by moisture, by polish and by parking bumps. (Other drivers can reverse into your car without you even knowing.) But the control unit should be fitted in a clean, dry place, and if that has failed after just two years it is plainly "not of satisfactory quality" and you should demand or even sue for free replacement by the dealer who fitted it. Use the fact that aftermarket systems are less than half the price you paid in your argument with the dealer, and in court if necessary. If you don't want to do that, then follow the advise of Just Answer UK Car and replace with an aftermarket system at less than half the price.
