Photo finishing
I will be collecting a pre-booked Europcar hire-car from a French airport this Summer. My current UK paper driving licence does not expire for a few years yet (I am in my early sixties). Please would you advise whether I need a photographic new card-type one to collect the car at the airport? Or whether I would have to carry my UK passport everywhere with me whilst driving in France to support my paper licence?

My advice to you is to get a photocard licence and save any potential hassle. It's quite easy now because if you have a recent passport the DVLA can get your biometric photo from the UKPA.
