Dip sick
My BMW 3-Series has a rusty dipstick with black stuff on it. I was told when I bought the car that this was a quirk of BMW 3-Series but two years down the road it is much worse. I have to go on a long drive on Friday. Should I have the oil changed? The EML light has come on a couple of times too and a box-like picture on the dashboard

Yes, have the oil and filter changed with an oil flush added to the old oil to get as much of it as possible out. The old oil must be drained from the sump plug. It must not be siphoned out of the dipstick tube because that won't get the black sludge out.
