Bushy tale

My wife recently purchased a new VW Fox and intended to sell privately her 1999 Toyota Yaris. We had read your comments about selling, pitfalls and that the prices of second-hand vehicles was improving. We were also encouraged by different sales people that there was a good chance to sell the car privately as it was in good condition for its age and a clean example. But now with the problems with recalls and the Toyota name we were wondering what the position would be in including the car in the scrappage scheme. Can the dealer legally refuse to include it for the purchase of the new car and are there any financial complications the dealer could claim were now expected.

Firstly, a 1999 is unaffected by the recall. Secondly it's a ridiculous storm in a teacup anyway. A deliberate 'switch' hunt against Toyota probably instigated secretly as part of a dirty tricks campaign by a competitor. But if she's already bought the new car, or even done the deal for it and is yet to take delivery, she can't avail herself of scrappage. Best way to sell the Yaris is www.sure-sell.info
